Extensions Care

I-Tip, Tape in, Hand Tied Weft Extensions

  1. If your extensions fall out, do not throw them away. Put them in a plastic bag and save for your next appointment.
  2. If you have a slight headache after install of extensions, take Aleve, Advil or Tylenol for the first 3 days and pain should likely subside after that. If it does not and you are in extreme pain, contact AOI immediately.
  3. Maintenance and readjustment with your stylist should be every 5-7 weeks.

How to Remove

  1. We recommend having your stylist remove them, but if you are in a bind, you can try the following:
  2. If you have one bead that is annoying you or poking out, you can take plyers and “un-pinch” the bead and it will slide right out.
  3. If you need to take a weft of tape in extension out of the hair, you can use extension removal oil or 99% alcohol. You will need to peel the old tape off of the weft before reapplying new tape for re-insertion of the weft into the hair.
  4. You can cut the hand-tied weft string with scissors and then un-pinch the bead with plyers to remove.

Great Length Extensions

  1. If your Great Length Extensions fall out, it is okay to throw them away as they are unusable.
  2. If you need to take a weft of tape in extension out of the hair, you can use extension removal oil or 99% alcohol. You will need to peel the old tape off of the weft before reapplying new tape for re-insertion of the weft into the hair.
  3. Maintenance with Great Length Extensions occurs every 3-5 months.
  4. You must BRUSH Great Length extensions from roots to end 3 times a day. This is necessary to avoid matting.

How to Remove:

  1. Great Length Extensions require a special gel to remove. Removing these on your own is not recommended.

General Care Instructions for All Extensions

  1. Be aware that swimming in a pool, lake or ocean can alter the color, quality or texture of the extensions
  2. AVOID having your extensions touch any sunscreen whatsoever. Sunscreen can alter the color of your extensions (especially blondes) by turning them red. This applies to touching your face or body that you have put sunscreen on.
  3. It is NOT recommended to “color” extensions, as the color may adhere differently or wash out faster; however, we will color extensions if necessary or if there is not a direct extension color match.
  4. You can wash, style, and use any type of heating tools on your extensions as long as they are 100% real hair. AOI only sells 100% real human hair extensions.

How to Wash:

  1. We recommend using a Clarifying or Detox Shampoo on extensions.
  2. Moisture conditioner and deep conditioning masks are great for extensions — apply mid strands to ends and avoid the beads or tape.
  3. Using a LIGHT purple shampoo on extensions is okay to tone any orange / yellow out of the hair. But please be aware, extensions are different that regular hair and will soak up shampoo as the color MAY change the color of the extensions too drastically.
  4. If your extensions turn a certain color for any reason, please call your stylist and we have special packets that can hopefully remove any chemical reactions or unwanted color absorptions.

How to Style:

  1. You can sleep with wet hair, or let it air-dry, but it is recommended to do a light blow dry on the roots before sleeping or letting air dry.
  2. Wearing your hair in a braid, ponytail or bun to bed can help preserve the integrity and quality of the extensions.
  3. Excess products on the hair near or around the beads or tape can make the beads or tape slip more quickly. Avoid root area whenever applying products. Only use mid strands to ends.
  4. A Wet Brush or Extensions specific brush is recommended.
  5. You must BRUSH Great Length extensions from roots to ends 3 times a day. This is necessary to avoid matting.
